Does bloating keep you from wearing what you want? Does pain keep you from normal day-to-day activities? Do you still feel sociable with your irritable bowel?

Digestion should be the most natural thing a human being does, yet so many of us suffer tremendously from digestive problems. There are many contributing factors of course, such as:

  • Stress and emotional strain
  • Eating habits
  • Intolerances
  • Medication
  • New climate (being abroad)

All of these factors and many more are taken into account when you see an acupuncturist. Acupuncture’s core function is to regulate the body’s energy and energy is essentially required for digestion and having well-formed bowel movements. If you suffer from an irritable bowel, constipation, diarrhoea, or crohn’s disease for example, you know that this action can leave you feeling exhausted and drained. Acupuncture works really well to regulate the bowel movements to your body’s natural rhythm and to decrease levels of pain, bloating and other discomfort that may follow.

Acupuncture can be very quick at relieving acute symptoms. It is however important for long term effects that you make an effort in terms of lifestyle and diet.

In many cases moderate exercise, breathing exercises, and eating habits such as not eating late at night, not over-eating, and eating cooked, relatively bland food can work wonders. Avoiding dairy products (butter is okay in small amounts) is often advised, as is eating refined flour, spicy food etc.
